Songs, Cycles and Scenas - premiere
New Noise join forces with Claire Booth (soprano) and Andrew Matthews-Owen (piano) for a performance of new and recent British music, including Alun Hoddinott's A Contemplation upon flowers (Myfanwy Piper). New Noise has commissioned two new duos for this event, a second work for oboe and vibraphone from Howard Skempton titled Gloss and Rolf Hind's Fire in the Head, which takes as its starting point a phrase from the Buddha: you should live your life as if your head is on fire! Prior to the performance broadcaster Katie Derham will be in conversation with some of the evenings composers.
New Album - Frozen River Flows
New Noise's second album 'Frozen River Flows' is nearing completion and features music by
Nigel Osborne, Adrian Lee, Howard Skempton, Iannis Xenakis, Simon Holt, Dobrinka Tabakova and George Nicholson. Released on the oboe classics label on September 1, please join us at the launch concert on September 6 in Camden Town, London.
Michael Zev Gordon - premiere
British composer Michael Zev Gordon has written Imaginary Lands, a new duo for New Noise to be premiered at the University of Southampton on May 10.
Scratch Music @ Rotherham Open Arts Festival
New Noise's latest project Scratch Music, brings together a collection of chamber pieces by Cornelius Cardew and some of the Scratch Ensemble's most influential members. This performance will include music by Howard Skempton, Michael Parsons, John White, Hugh Shrapnel and concludes with the final Paragraph of Cornelius Cardew's The Great Learning. New Noise will be joined by Ruth Wall on lever harp, Oliver Coates on cello and singers from the local community.
